《湖南师大社会科学学报》创刊于1952年，1984年起由季刊改为双月刊，1985年起更名为《湖南师范大学学报》（哲学社会科学版），1986年起更名为《湖南师范大学社会科学学报》。湖南师范大学主管，湖南师范大学社会科学学报编辑部编辑，国内外公开发行。中国标准刊号是ISSN 1000－2529 CN 43-1165/C。双月刊，逢单月出版。
